Lake Wateree State Park, SC

Decided to camp here for a few days. Stayed at the Taylors Creek section, which is the newest section in the state park, with full hook-up on all sites. This new section was build in 2020.

This section is very open, with no shade, unless you park your chair under the awning. Good for Starlink though. Lake fishing available 50 yards away. All sites pretty much filled up being Memorial Day weekend.

Site 84.

Lake Wateree State Park3

Very nice place to stay. A little too open for our taste though. Will probably stay at the lakeside section next time.

Fun fact: Lake Wateree is a 13,000+ acre man-made reservoir located approximately 30 miles northeast of Columbia, South Carolina, and roughly an hour south of Charlotte, North Carolina. Created in 1920 by the damming of the Wateree River, it is one of South Carolina’s oldest and largest lakes, spanning across Fairfield, Kershaw, and Lancaster counties. Managed by Duke Energy, the lake features over 200 miles of wooded shoreline, offering a popular destination for fishing, camping, and boating.

New EDC blade

New EDC blade

The Spyderco Shaman.

This is an outstanding blade, a river rock in the hand, a lightsaber on the cutting board, and a dream in the pocket for its size and intended purpose. This is an outstanding version of an excellent blade and a strong candidate for the “One Ring” knife thought experiment.

Perfect EDC. Big, but still perfect, for me anyway.

Little Pee Dee River SP

This is a great state park with a medium size campground. Got us a site right on the water. This is a very nice and quiet place.

The roads around the campground are all dirt road, and was pretty tight and curvy getting the RV in there. The sites are dirt as well. Most of them have water and electric. There is a dump station on the way out.

We really liked it here. Very quiet.

2020 Purple Martin Season

The season started on February 11, when the first two adult males arrived. We currently have around 70 pair, and the last nest check showed 288 eggs across the entire colony. Current capacity is 72 pair. It is getting pretty tight space-wise, so we have decided to add a Gemini 24 rack for next season. We currently have 3 Super-24 racks.

Update 6/4/2020: We currently have 71 pair with a total of 298 hatched.
